I sent her to the most remote corners of our planet. She’s an adventure traveler, ready for just about anything and everything, and I love traveling vicariously through her experiences. When she called to say it was time to hit the road again, I immediately started scheming and dreaming of places “we” hadn’t been!
Because covid had postponed his trips by more than two years, the plan was to make it an “overdone” trip. She needed to make up for lost time. Then she made a special request: she wanted to make it a train trip.
I’m a travel agent with Monroe Travel Service. I’ve sold tickets for the world’s most lavish train journeys, like the luxurious Ghan, a great way to explore Australia’s incredible Outback from Darwin to Adelaide; the Rovos Rail in South Africa with stops at Victoria Falls, Etosha National Parks and other exciting wildlife opportunities; the Hiram Bingham Belmond that makes a trip to the lost city of the Incas in Peru so special at Machu Picchu; the Rocky Mountaineer, which is all about enjoying the beauty of Western Canada, and the famous Venice Simplon-Orient Express which criss-crosses Europe from Paris to Istanbul.
I considered each of these beautiful journeys before considering Indian Maharajas Express as the most perfect train journey for my adventure-obsessed traveler. After all, how could a luxuriously appointed historic train, named after the fabulously rich and fabulously powerful Maharajas of India, not be the coolest way to experience one of the most colorful and unique destinations in the world? world ?
As the winner of our travel industry’s highest honors for over six years, Maharajas Express offers 4 and 7 day trips mainly in North West and Central India at an incredibly high level of comfort . Guests sleep in comfortable cabins and enjoy the best food and wine services from some of the kindest and sweetest people – and with the widest smiles ever – in the world. You see, in Indian culture, guests are treated like gods. Flower petals on the beds, welcoming music and red carpets rolled out at every stop are just some of the ways train passengers are honored and pampered during their journey.
Not only would the Maharajas Express give my client a date with the adventure of a lifetime, but I felt she would certainly enjoy traveling in unparalleled luxury. Special organized trips – from elephant polo to a champagne meal in a private palace overlooking the Taj Majal – would be his to enjoy before retiring to an ornately decorated cabin, complete with butler, of course. As train travel is the main mode of transport in India, the train tracks are well maintained which ensures a good night’s sleep with a smooth ride.
Without a doubt, a trip on the Maharajas Express is a bit like “travelling in a bubble”, and, regardless of safety and security concerns, there is much to enjoy in a country with such a wonderfully diverse and colorful history, without forget one with an equally remarkable future. Besides being the world leader in science and technology, India is the world’s second largest economy. Even though they maintain the 4th largest military force in the world, they somehow manage to get along pretty well politically with all the big players.
Let’s be honest, it also makes sense for us to see and better understand a place with the 2nd largest population in the world and where 65% of its population is under the age of 35! India is a country destined to become an even bigger player in the future of our world.
So, like my friend soon to be on the Maharajas Express and feasting on the Taj Majal, perhaps you too might want to put the splendor of a trip to India on your travel radar. If so, call me and let’s make it happen.
