NEBRASKA CITY — The Nebraska National Guard battled their way to victory Saturday in the AppleJack Festival water barrel competition, but Omaha’s TEAM Software Inc. applied the pressure.

The City of Nebraska Fire Department staged the 10-team event with loaded fire hoses on Central Avenue.

Alex Harms of the Nebraska National Guard said the team doesn’t have much time to train together.

Harms: “We decided yesterday that we were going to do it.”

Maddie Anders, Junior Product Owner at TEAM Software, was the captain of the second runner-up Aqua Assault. His team had to earn two straight wins before facing the undefeated and well-rested National Guard team.

Anders: “Our arms got tired towards the end. I think we would have won if we had a break, yeah.

Stephanie Peterson of third place Strategic Soakers, who was one of Team Software’s three teams, offered her tips for controlling the nozzle.

Peterson: “Aim high and bring your scopes and don’t drop them from the barrel.”

Marcus Lind of Team B103 FM described his emotions as the young Allgood team started their group.

Lind: “Not at all. I live for the wins. I’m not intimidated.
